About Aleynu

I am a Jewish American who has become demoralized and saddened by the discourse of what I perceive to be the New Left regarding Israel and Palestine.

Where there had been reasonable dialogue in the past, which argued that while Israel may have been heavy-handed and harsh concerning the treatment of Palestinians, the Palestinians themselves had a mutual responsibility to respect the human rights of Israel’s citizens, the new argument thoroughly dismisses Israel’s inherent right to exist. This new perspective represents a naïve acceptance of pro-Palestinian propaganda, a result of clever and devious innuendo.

While my blog addresses such insinuations, it has become increasingly difficult to refute the irrational charges of Israel’s so-called “apartheid” “colonialism”. Where Israel defends itself against Islamic extremist attacks on its citizens, the New Left descends into a fascist tendency to reinterpret such defensive measures as simply calculated acts of oppression. Where Israel has been subject to six decades of virulent antisemitism from the surrounding Islamic population, the New Left now voices its affirmation, claiming that a “powerful Jewish lobby” advocates and even manipulates the eradication of the Palestinian people. Where Israel makes territorial concessions, the New Left ignores such concessions or, worse, calls them calculated acts of exploitation. Where Israel opens its government, courts and universities to all citizens – Jews, Moslems, Christians and the non-religious, the New Left condemns Israel for a religious xenophobia – a condemnation both untrue and absurd given the supremacist Islamic identity of twenty two countries and a worldwide Islamic population that numbers some 1.25 billion people.

While Israel’s democracy is flawed, it represents the most democratic and open society in the Middle East and beyond. The New Left may no longer be open to the truth but, nevertheless, the truth must be told.
